Cathy's 14th Street Bakery is located in Ocean City, New Jersey. For this project, I created an app focused on delivery/pickup and custom dozen donuts
Project Brief
For this project I selected a small business that could benefit from an app. I chose Cathy's 14th Street Bakery which is located in Ocean City, New Jersey. I decided to focus on making the menu accessible, providing an option to create a custom dozen donuts, and make the checkout process for pickup/delivery simple. I worked with a group during the research phase of the project to gather information from the owners of Cathy's Bakery, and interview our target audience. One of our first steps was posting a survey on our Instagrams to reach a large amount of our target audience.

We then used Miro as a collaborative workspace where we worked on affinity mapping and planned out our questions for our different groups of people. This helped us see the most popular responses for what could make a user's experience at a bakery better. Below are examples of some of our Miro boards and the Instagram story for our survey.
Research Results

We sent out a survey on Instagram and got a lot of great feedback about user's experiences with bakeries and apps. This step helped guide the rest of our design decisions.

"I think having an easy to read menu on a food app is a necessary element"
"Ordering delivery through a third-party app is way too expensive and discourages me from ordering delivery"
"Pickup options are super convenient for someone in a hurry in the morning"
- Alice, 42
- Emma, 21
- Mike, 22
Personas

Our next step was to create personas based on research with our target audiences.

Next Steps

From our research we came up with three main challenges that we were going to try to find solutions for with the app. These challenges were decreasing long wait times, the need to increase customers and profit for Cathy's Bakery with pickup/delivery options, and the interest in customization/variety for customers on the app. Users also expressed an interest in a rewards program for Cathy's Bakery that could tie into the app. I began developing wireframes with these challenges in mind.

The Final Solution
Onboarding

For my final design, I wanted the app to overall have a very warm and welcoming feeling, The colors I chose emulate a bakery experience and feel very inviting. The initial screen invites the user to log in to their account or sign up for one

Menu

The menu page firstly has a search option at the top to allow users to find exactly what they are looking for. There is next a scrolling option that divides the different menu options into sections for easy browsing. To add or take away an item in your basket you simply hit the plus or minus number to add the amount you want. Pictures are also used beside each item to show users exactly what the product looks like.

Custom Dozen

A fun feature on this app is the custom dozen function. This allows users to have complete customization with their dozen donuts, as well as decrease wait time in the store because their items are already chosen when they arrive at Cathy's

Checkout

The checkout screens are intuitive and simple. The user can easily see what is in their basket and change quantities if needed. They are then prompted to choose delivery or pickup to continue the checkout process.

Delivery

If the delivery method is chosen, the user simply inputs their address and is able to leave additional notes if needed.

Home Screen
The home screen includes a loyalty card for frequent customers, weekly deals, and popular items. It also houses the profile feature in the upper right corner.
